Kappa Nu Sigma Alumnae Chapter Scholarship Eligibility and Requirements
Mary Lou Allison Little Scholarship: This scholarship is available to minority graduating high school students accepted into a four year college/university and to minority students at California State Dominguez Hills and California State Northridge.
Three $1000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2012-13 school year
- Be a member of an ethnic minority group (Native American, Hispanic, Black/Non-Hispanic, etc…)
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Submit an official high school transcript
- Submit official college transcripts (California State University Dominguez Hills and California State University Northridge students only)
- Submit proof of acceptance into a four year college/university (high school graduates only)
- Non San Fernando Valley residents must submit proof of acceptance into California State Northridge or California State Dominguez Hills
- Attach three (3) letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation are accepted from teachers, guidance counselors, principals, employers and/or community service representatives. Letters of recommendation cannot come from family members. Letters of recommendations should be on letterhead and typed.
- Write an essay at least three pages long (typed and double spaced) using clear, original thought supported by personal experiences, observations, and/or research on one of two following topics:
- Please state your opinion on Affirmative Action in higher education. How does it affect you in your scholastic endeavors?
- Discuss the impact that a recent event (political, social, etc.) will have on the members of your graduating class, academically, financially, and/or personally. If the impact is negative, what are some ways your peers can overcome it and move forward in their personal and professional lives as citizens of society?
Applications will be accepted 3/1/12 - 4/30/12. Notification of award will be made by 5/11/12 by email. Applications will be available on the CSUDH and CSUN financial aid website, KNS website, Fastweb, scholarship.com and studentscholarship.org.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2012, thirty-seven states, 10,000 teachers, and more than 1.5 million students will participate in the first-ever national Digital Learning Day, a national awareness campaign spearheaded by the Alliance for Excellent Education celebrating innovative teachers and highlighting instructional practices that strengthen teaching and personalize learning for all students.
Digital Learning Day, which include:
• 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (ET): Morning Webcast
• 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. (ET): National Town Hall featuring U.S. Secretary of
Education Arne Duncan and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski
• 3:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (ET): Replay of Morning Webcast
